I was 'laid off' from IBM after more than 23 years of faithful service. There was no cause; it was so that IBM could move my job to Columbia, MO. I had worked out of the home for the past 15 of those 23 years and IBM told me that I could not keep my job if I moved to MO from CO. So me and however many other people IBM notified all were walked out the door in June 2020.
For the 1st time since I was in High School, I was unemployed and it felt so wrong. Now all of this is going on at the same time as the US unemployment rate is at record highs due to the Corona Virus Pandemic. Record numbers of hard-working people are also looking for jobs to keep their family's afloat at this same time.
This has forced me into the job search that I had not really wanted to do before. Updating my resume, going into LinkedIn to see who I can connect with, looking through internet job search boards, and talking to everyone I come in contact with about possible job opportunities. This is not my style. I am used to putting my head down and getting whatever job done that needed doing. Relying on other people and asking for help is not so easy.
